Gorilla Mode Pre Workout: 8 Critical Label Facts

Gorilla Mode is one of the most heavily dosed pre workouts on sale. The label claims 400 mg of caffeine, 10 g of L-citrulline and 5 g of creatine in a full two scoop serving, with every dose printed. If those figures are accurate, the Gorilla Mode pre workout meets or exceeds the research dose on most lines, and the real questions are whether you need that much and whether you tolerate 400 mg of caffeine. This page reads the Gorilla Mode pre workout ingredients and compares the stimulant free Gorilla Mode Nitric. We did not lab test the product, so every product figure below is a label claim by the manufacturer.

Educational content only. This page reads the manufacturer label against published research. It is not medical advice. If you have high blood pressure, a heart condition, are pregnant, or take stimulant or blood pressure medication, talk to your clinician before using any high caffeine pre workout.

The Data In Brief

Three numbers that decide it

400mg caffeine
In one full serving

Two scoops of Gorilla Mode list 400 mg of caffeine anhydrous, the amount commonly cited as a full day for a healthy adult. One scoop lists 200 mg, the same as a scoop of C4.

10g citrulline
Above the studied range

Most trials use 3 to 6 g of L-citrulline or 6 to 8 g of citrulline malate. Gorilla Mode lists 10 g at two scoops and 5 g at one. More is not proven to be better, and one scoop already sits near the studied dose.

$3.00per serving
20 full servings per tub

At the $59.99 list price the tub holds 40 scoops. That is 20 full servings at $3.00 or 40 single scoops at $1.50. Unlike most rivals, a single scoop here is still a complete product.

Label figures for Gorilla Mode and Gorilla Mode Nitric were read from the manufacturer Supplement Facts panels for the Candy Apple flavour in September 2026. Formulas change between runs, so check your own tub.

Scope

What this review covers

Covered

The full label. All ten actives at one scoop and two scoops, each set against the dose used in human research.

Caffeine per scoop and half scoop. With a calculator that adds your coffee and body weight.

Where the dose is above or below the evidence. More than studied is not the same as better, and one headline ingredient is far below its studied dose.

Gorilla Mode Nitric. What the stimulant free version swaps in, and who should pick it.

Label Table

Gorilla Mode pre workout ingredients, line by line

The panel gives two columns: one scoop of about 20.1 g and two scoops of 40.2 g, with 40 scoops in the tub. The manufacturer describes two scoops as the maximum daily dose. There is no proprietary blend, so every line can be checked.

Status at the full two scoop serving: ● in range or above the studied dose, ● partial evidence or below the studied dose, ● far below the studied dose.

Notice what is missing. Gorilla Mode contains no beta alanine, so there is no tingling, and no theanine. The other ingredients list names sucralose and acesulfame potassium as sweeteners. If two column panels are new to you, our guide on how to read supplement labels explains how serving sizes shape the headline numbers.

Caffeine

How much caffeine is in Gorilla Mode, per scoop and half scoop

The caffeine line is simple: 200 mg of caffeine anhydrous per scoop, 400 mg per two scoops, and by the same arithmetic about 100 mg in a half scoop. There is no second caffeine source hidden lower on the panel.

5mg per kgCaffeine from two scoops of Gorilla Mode for an 80 kg lifter, inside the 3 to 6 mg per kg range in the ISSN position stand. For a 60 kg lifter the same serving is 6.7 mg per kg.

Guest and colleagues, writing the International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand, concluded that caffeine improves performance at 3 to 6 mg per kg of body mass, may work from about 2 mg per kg, and that very high doses such as 9 mg per kg add side effects without adding benefit. For an 80 kg lifter one scoop is 2.5 mg per kg and two scoops is 5 mg per kg. Lighter people reach the top of the useful range with one and a half scoops.

One scoop of Gorilla Mode matches a scoop of C4. The full serving is the strongest product on the chart.

Is Gorilla Mode too strong? At two scoops it uses the whole 400 mg day in one drink, so any coffee, tea or energy drink goes on top. Drake and colleagues gave 400 mg of caffeine six hours before bedtime and still measured important disruption of sleep, which describes a full serving before an evening session exactly. For reference points across the can aisle, see our breakdown of caffeine in Monster Energy and of the brand's own can, Gorilla Mind Energy, at 200 mg.

Doses

Where Gorilla Mode is above the evidence and where it is below

Big numbers sell pre workouts. The useful question is which of them match research and which simply exceed it. Here is what the evidence says about the lines that carry most of the effect.

L-citrulline, 10 g. Trexler and colleagues pooled 12 studies with 198 participants and found a significant but small benefit for strength and power work, with a pooled effect size of 0.20. The best known trial, by Perez-Guisado and Jakeman, used 8 g of citrulline malate. Nobody has shown that 10 g does more than 6 g, so treat the second scoop as optional for this line.

Creatine, 5 g. A full research dose, as the ISSN stand by Kreider and colleagues describes. Creatine works through daily intake, not timing, so it only counts if you take Gorilla Mode every day or top up on rest days. Our guide to creatine before or after a workout covers why.

3%The glycerol in two scoops as a share of the hyperhydration dose in the sports medicine guideline, for an 80 kg athlete: about 2.6 g against 96 g.

Glycerol, 4 g of a 65 percent powder. This is the line where marketing and research are furthest apart. Van Rosendal and colleagues, in their guideline for glycerol use, describe 1.2 g of glycerol per kg of body weight with a large volume of fluid, about 96 g for an 80 kg athlete. Two scoops supply roughly 2.6 g. Whatever that amount does for a pump, it is not the hydration effect the research describes.

Betaine, tyrosine, alpha-GPC. Betaine at 4 g exceeds the 2.5 g a day Cholewa and colleagues used, again as a daily dose. Tyrosine helps cognition under acute stress according to the review by Jongkees and colleagues, with no agreed dose for lifting. The 800 mg of 50 percent alpha-GPC is about 400 mg of active against the 600 mg in the study by Bellar and colleagues.

Nitric

Gorilla Mode Nitric: the stimulant free version

Gorilla Mode Nitric is sold as a separate tub at the same $59.99 list price. It keeps the pump side of the formula and removes every stimulant, which makes it the obvious pick for evening training or for stacking with your own coffee.

The nitrate is the interesting addition. Senefeld and colleagues pooled 80 crossover studies and found that nitrate supplementation improved exercise performance by a small margin, an effect size of 0.17, with no benefit seen in well trained endurance athletes or in the few studies of women. Much of that research used beetroot juice in endurance tests, so the carry over to lifting is an assumption. Taurine has its own small endurance signal in the meta analysis by Waldron and colleagues.

Comparison

Gorilla Mode against C4 and Thavage on label figures

Three popular tubs, three very different philosophies. The C4 column comes from our C4 pre workout review. The Thavage column was read from the current RAW Nutrition panel.

On label figures Gorilla Mode carries more of almost everything, and it is the only one of the three with a full 5 g of creatine. The trade offs are price, a 40 g serving that needs a lot of water, and no beta alanine if that is an ingredient you want. For other reference points, our reviews of Mother Bucker and Jack3d read those labels the same way.

Expectations

What not to expect from Gorilla Mode

A label this strong invites big expectations. The research supports smaller ones, and knowing the difference saves money and sleep.

Four honest limits

It will not build muscle on its own. The effects of citrulline and betaine in trials are small. Training, protein and sleep do the building.

Most of what you feel is caffeine. Four hundred milligrams is a large dose for anyone. The focus and drive in the first hour come from that line more than from any other.

The creatine only counts if it is daily. Muscle stores fill over weeks. Used three times a week, 5 g per session averages about 2 g a day.

More is not more. No trial shows that 10 g of citrulline beats 6 g, or that 4 g of betaine beats 2.5 g. One scoop is a complete, well dosed product for many people.

Label Facts

Eight critical facts about Gorilla Mode

1

Every dose is printed

10 actives

Gorilla Mode uses no proprietary blend. Each active is listed at one and two scoops, which is what makes a dose by dose check possible.

2

Two scoops is a full day of caffeine

400 mg

The full serving equals the amount commonly cited as the daily upper level for healthy adults. Coffee goes on top of that, not inside it.

3

One scoop is already a real product

5 g citrulline

A single scoop lists 5 g of citrulline, 200 mg of caffeine and 2 g of betaine. That is close to research doses, which is not true of most one scoop servings.

4

Citrulline is above the studied range

10 g

Trials cluster around 3 to 6 g of L-citrulline or 6 to 8 g of citrulline malate, with a small pooled effect of 0.20. Ten grams is untested rather than proven better.

5

The glycerol is a token dose

3%

About 2.6 g of glycerol against the 1.2 g per kg described in the hyperhydration guideline. It may change how the drink feels. It is not the studied protocol.

6

Full creatine, if you use it daily

5 g

Two scoops supply the standard 5 g. On rest days you would need plain creatine to keep stores full, which our guide to the creatine loading phase explains.

7

No beta alanine, no tingle

0 g

Unusual for the category. If you want beta alanine you will need it separately, taken daily, since the ISSN stand describes 4 to 6 g a day for weeks.

8

Evening use costs sleep

6 hours

Drake and colleagues found 400 mg of caffeine six hours before bed still disrupted sleep. For late sessions the stimulant free Nitric version is the sensible choice.

Verdict

So, is Gorilla Mode worth it

If the label is accurate, Gorilla Mode is one of the few pre workouts where the doses match or exceed the research at full serving and still hold up at one scoop. That is a real strength. The caution is that the full serving is built for large, caffeine tolerant lifters, and much of the extra dose above research levels is untested rather than better.

It suits you if
  • You want an open label with research sized doses
  • You are heavier than about 80 kg and handle caffeine well
  • You like having creatine inside your pre workout
  • You are happy to use one scoop on most days
Skip it or choose Nitric if
  • You have high blood pressure, a heart condition or are pregnant
  • You train in the evening and care about sleep
  • You are under about 65 kg, where two scoops passes 6 mg per kg
  • You already drink several coffees a day

The research caveat applies to the whole category. No trial has tested Gorilla Mode itself. The evidence is for single ingredients, mostly taken daily for weeks, with small effects apart from caffeine. Buy it for an honest label and a strong stimulant, not for a transformation.

1scoopThe sensible starting dose: 200 mg of caffeine and 5 g of citrulline, close to research levels at $1.50 a session.
FAQ

Common questions

How much caffeine is in Gorilla Mode?

The label lists 200 mg of caffeine anhydrous per scoop and 400 mg per two scoop serving, with no other caffeine source. A half scoop is about 100 mg. Gorilla Mode Nitric contains no caffeine.

Is Gorilla Mode too strong?

At two scoops it can be. Four hundred milligrams is 5 mg per kg for an 80 kg lifter, inside the range that improves performance, but 6.7 mg per kg for a 60 kg lifter. Most people should start with one scoop and avoid other caffeine on the day they use two.

What is the difference between Gorilla Mode and Nitric?

Nitric is the stimulant free version. It keeps 10 g of citrulline, 5 g of creatine, betaine and glycerol, removes caffeine, tyrosine, alpha-GPC and huperzine, and adds 1.5 g of sodium nitrate, 3 g of taurine, agmatine and VasoDrive-AP. Both list at $59.99.

What are the Gorilla Mode pre workout ingredients?

Per two scoops: L-citrulline 10 g, creatine monohydrate 5 g, L-tyrosine 5 g, betaine 4 g, HydroPrime glycerol powder 4 g, malic acid 3 g, pink salt 1 g, alpha-GPC 50 percent 800 mg, caffeine 400 mg and huperzine A 200 mcg, sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame potassium.

Does Gorilla Mode have creatine?

Yes, 2.5 g per scoop and 5 g per two scoops of creatine monohydrate. That is a full research dose, but creatine works through daily intake, so it only does its job if you take it every day, including rest days.

Does Gorilla Mode have beta alanine?

No. The current label lists no beta alanine, so there is no tingling. If you want its endurance benefit, take it separately every day, since research doses are 4 to 6 g daily for several weeks.

Can I take one scoop of Gorilla Mode?

Yes, and for many people it is the better choice. One scoop lists 200 mg of caffeine, 5 g of citrulline, 2.5 g of creatine and 2 g of betaine. That is close to research doses for a smaller lifter and halves the cost to about $1.50.

Is Gorilla Mode safe to take every day?

For healthy adults the main issue is total caffeine across the day and its effect on sleep. Two scoops reaches 400 mg before any coffee. People with high blood pressure, heart conditions or who are pregnant should speak to a clinician first.
